Short Track Event and Course Description

The Short track event will be run on city streets, unpaved alleys, and dirt traces through and around Harmon Park. The course is approximately .6 miles long and is approximately 1/3 paved to 2/3 unpaved. There is less than 50 feet elevation gain and loss on the course and four dirt / paved transitions. It is a fast wide course with several sharp turns. Competitors will be set off in 3 skill categories with no age class or gender distinction. You can race your dad or sister in this one! 1st-3rd cash lap primes will be offered for each category as well as sprint primes throughout the event and bell lap prizes.

The course will start in front of the Parks & Recreation office on Spring Street. The course travels along this wide paved road for approximately .2 miles. The course then turns sharply left onto an unnamed, unpaved double track utility road. After descending steeply for 150 feet the road merges with another unpaved wide dirt road known as Spring Garden. The course travels along Spring Garden for .2 miles before it junctions with Polk St. The course turns left onto Polk Street, a steep paved road, and travels up it for only 100 feet before turning right into a gravel parking lot in Harmon Park. The course continues along the parking lot and a gravel road through the parks interior (The finish line for the race will be on this flat section of gravel road.) After a flat run through part of the park, the road rises to another parking lot in an upper tier of the park. The course veers left through the parking lot between a bluff and the Parks & Recreation Office. The course then turns left off of the gravel road back onto Spring Street to the start line, finishing the last .2 miles.
