Downhill Course Description

THE DH COURSE AT LEATHERWOOD UTILIZES MULTI-USE TRAILS. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO RIDE THE COURSE AT RACE SPEED ANY OTHER TIME THAN THAT OF THE SCHEDULED PRACTICE DAYS AND TIMES. FAILURE TO CONTROL THIS ACTIVITY MAY MEAN LOSS OF OPPORTUNITY AND PRIVILEGES NEXT YEAR!

The DH course is approximately .9 miles long and will have run times of around 2-3 minutes depending on class and category. It is 50/50 old fire road / single track. The surface is packed and smooth, but in dry conditions can get kind of a marbley slickness to it because of loose gravel. The course starts at the top of Miner's Rock Trail near private property. NEW! The start begins with a seven-turn single-track section through a deep ravine with banked corners and a couple of kickers. It then rejoins the old course and hits the single-track flow section for several hundred yards with a couple of kickers. The course then sets you up for a 4-8 foot ledge drop, (Depending on class) and into a pedal section of varying difficulty depending on speed. You then descend a flow section of fire road for about 1/4 mile with a couple of jumps, trail options, kickers and soft corners. You then exit the fire road and begin a very short single-track section into a revamped rock garden and another set of kickers and jumps. The course then returns to the fire road down a steep rocky section and crosses the paved LLCP entrance road. Off the road is a steep bank drop into a wooded flood plain and a banked corner and immediately into the finish line drop (approximately 10 foot shoot drop) into a set of finish line jumps. Overall this is a very fast smooth course and very XC friendly.  We expect short to medium travel full-springers to rival big hit bike times. Bike and tire selection will be crucial.
